Dakar 2023 - My Dakar

The Rugged Rides 4/3/2023

Everyone has their own "Dakar". I have just finished mine. It was always one of my biggest travel dreams, because the "Dakar" in my mind is a childhood flashback, series of images, that I didn't fully understand, but which lit an inexplicable light of imagination in my young head.

My Dakar was the closest to my own romantic vision of getting there in a full rally mode on my own. It was intense! We woke up before sunrise, set bivuacs every day, used headlamp light to do services and cook. We gave the best of ourselves and formed an amazing team. We were on our own, we had to have everything. Prepared ourselves very carefully, where it comes to hardware and ourselves as well. We covered carefully crafted off-road route, riding on the tracks of past rallies, throught the Sahara, the Atlas mountains, the savannah and the beaches. We escaped civilisation. After almost 6,000km we reached our destination and still had a time to continue and only turned back when reached the end of Senegal near Guinea border.

We met lots of kindness and smiles on people's faces. This trip has paid off, leaving me with a full palette of vivid images and wonderful experiences! Full report soon, probably in episodes, track, practical information and some free thoughts. Stay tuned!
